Tragedy struck near Puri's Swargadwar when Ranjan Kumar Das, visiting from Bhadrak to attend a cremation, was fatally stabbed on Thursday night. The incident unfolded following a verbal dispute over loud conversation with the accused, Tanmay Mahapatra. Das was reportedly attacked with a knife during the escalating argument, succumbing to his injuries at the hospital.
Mahapatra did not stop there; he allegedly pursued and further attacked Manas Nayak, a friend of the deceased, inflicting serious injuries. Nayak is currently receiving medical treatment. Locals intervened, subduing the accused and alerting the authorities. Sea Beach police swiftly arrived and took Mahapatra into custody.
The investigation is ongoing, with police confirming the murder stemmed from an argument that turned violent. Ranjan Kumar Das is survived by his wife, two young children, and parents, who have since taken his body to their native village for final rites. The accused has been arrested and is facing charges.
