Jailbirds Find Their Voice: Poems from Punjab Prisons

Inmates within Ludhiana's central jail are expressing deep emotions and regrets through original poems and songs as part of the 'Guldasta' initiative. These creative outlets offer a window into their lives, touching on themes of remorse, family love, and the harsh realities of their situations. The project has proven so impactful that it is now set to be rolled out across all 26 correctional facilities in Punjab.

The expansion of 'Guldasta' has been approved by the Additional Director General of Police (Prisons), with the Welba Foundation leading the state-wide implementation. This initiative is designed to support the reformation of inmates by providing constructive avenues for emotional processing. A Punjab Jail Literature Festival is also on the horizon, planned for Central Jail in Hoshiarpur, offering a platform for inmates to display their literary and artistic skills.
