Officer Survives Gunfire Thanks to Bulletproof Vest

In Doraha, Punjab, a police inspector, Akash Datt, survived a close call on Monday morning when a wanted criminal, Harsimran Singh, opened fire during a pursuit. A bullet struck Inspector Datt's chest but was stopped by his bulletproof vest, averting serious injury. The incident concluded with the arrest of Singh and his associate, Avanjot Singh Bhandal.
The encounter began after police received intelligence about Singh's whereabouts. The suspect, driving a Mahindra Scorpio, attempted to evade capture by ramming a police vehicle. Inspector Datt retaliated by firing two shots, disabling Singh with a shot to the right knee. Two .32-bore pistols were seized from the suspects' vehicle.
Harsimran Singh has a history of targeting law enforcement, including previous charges for attempted murder and firearms violations. Despite multiple warrants, he had evaded capture until this recent incident, where police were initiating proceedings to declare him a proclaimed offender. His accomplice, Bhandal, has no prior criminal record.
