Pune Police Seize $2.5 Million in Andekar Gang Assets
27 Sep, 2025
Summary
- Pune police identify $18 million in Andekar family assets
- Andekar gang charged under Maharashtra's anti-organized crime law
- Police demolish Andekar's illegal fish market and installations

On September 27, 2025, the Pune city crime branch announced a significant breakthrough in their ongoing battle against the Andekar criminal gang. The police have identified and seized various assets, including land parcels, hutments, and shops, belonging to the Andekar family members, with a total estimated value of around $18 million.
The properties, located in Phursungi, Kothrud, Mulshi, and Nana Peth, were the result of the Andekar gang's illicit activities over the years. The authorities have invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the gang's leader, Suryakant alias Bandu Andekar, and his family members, empowering the police to take action against their ill-gotten assets.
This crackdown comes just a few weeks after the Samarth police charged Bandu Andekar and 14 others under MCOCA for the September 5th murder of Ayush Komkar, an act of revenge for the killing of Vanraj, a former corporator and member of the Andekar family. The ongoing feud within the Andekar clan over property disputes has led to a series of violent incidents, prompting the authorities to take decisive action.
In a related development, the Faraskhana police last week arrested four men for allegedly collecting monthly extortion money on behalf of the Andekar gang from vendors at the unauthorized fish market in Ganesh Peth. Based on the traders' statements, the police claim that the Andekar gang had amassed around $2.5 million in "protection money" from them over the past 12 years.
In the past two weeks, the Pune Municipal Corporation and the police have taken swift action, demolishing the Andekar's fish market and other illegal installations in the Nana Peth area, further dismantling their criminal empire.
