Uncle Accused of Leading Niece to Suicide in Pune
9 Feb
Summary
- A pharmacy owner in Baner is accused of abetting his niece's suicide.
- The 20-year-old woman was found dead in her uncle's flat.
- This tragedy mirrors a similar suicide by her aunt five years prior.

Baner police in Pune have initiated the process to register a case against a local pharmacy store owner on charges of abetment of suicide. The accusation stems from the death of his 20-year-old niece, who was discovered hanging in a flat belonging to the uncle in Baner on January 28.
Initially, the police had registered an accidental death report. However, the niece's brother approached the authorities on Sunday, alleging that his maternal uncle had subjected his sister to mental and physical harassment. This prompted the police to investigate the case as abetment of suicide.
Adding a layer of tragedy, the complainant informed the police that his elder sister (the deceased's aunt) had also died by suicide by hanging from the same ceiling fan approximately five years ago. She too was an attendant at one of the pharmacy shops owned by the same uncle. No suicide note was found in the room where the 20-year-old woman was discovered deceased.
