In Pune, five men have been charged with murder following the death of a 19-year-old youth. The incident occurred early Wednesday morning near Canal Road in Wanowrie, where the victim, Rupesh Shinde, and his friend Ajay Tingre were allegedly attacked. The assailants mistakenly believed Shinde and Tingre were attempting to steal pigeons.
According to police, the attackers confronted Shinde and Tingre as they stopped to relieve themselves. Shinde tried to flee but was caught and severely beaten with fists, punches, and a wooden bat. The attackers then transported a semi-conscious Shinde to a hospital, attempting to falsely report his injuries as a road accident.
Deputy commissioner of police Rajlaxmi Shivankar confirmed that the nature of Shinde's injuries indicated an assault, leading to the registration of a murder case. Shinde, a construction worker, was returning home with Tingre when the fatal encounter took place. The investigation is ongoing, with police actively pursuing the identified suspects.
