Tragedy has struck in Pune where a five-year-old girl, missing since Saturday night, was discovered raped and murdered on Sunday afternoon. Her body was found in a farm situated a mere 500 meters from her residence in Urse, Maval taluka. The victim's family, who are casual workers from Jharkhand, had relocated to Pune for employment opportunities.
Authorities have apprehended the victim's neighbor, a 30-year-old man employed by a private company. His arrest was facilitated by CCTV evidence and witness testimonies, corroborated by the "last seen theory." Following initial evasive responses, the suspect confessed to the heinous crime during sustained interrogation. He admitted to luring the girl away with a toffee and subsequently committing the rape and murder.
The suspect then strangled the child using her clothes and abandoned her body in a farm. Police have registered charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. The investigation is ongoing as authorities piece together the events that led to this horrific incident.
