In Khed, Pune, a 45-year-old ex-serviceman is accused of murdering his wife, 40-year-old Deepa Mahendra Daundkar, and subsequently attempting to kill their 17-year-old son. The incident occurred late on Sunday night.
The son, Atharva Daundkar, reported that his father harbored anger towards his mother due to her strained relationship with the accused's sister. This disagreement had previously led the accused to leave home on March 22, prompting a missing person's report.
On Sunday evening, Atharva returned home to find his mother unresponsive in her bedroom. His father claimed she was asleep, but Atharva discovered her with visible injuries. The situation escalated when the accused allegedly attempted to strangle Atharva, who then escaped and raised an alarm.
The accused pursued Atharva with kitchen knives, threatening him. Relatives intervened, but the accused pushed Atharva's grandfather before fleeing. The victim was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced deceased. Khed police have registered a case and formed teams to apprehend the suspect.
