Pune Cop Assaulted by Bikers After Minor Accident

On Monday, October 6th, 2025, a Pune police constable was the victim of a violent assault by two men on a sports bike. The incident occurred around 1:30 AM near the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) on Law College Road.

Constable Amol Katkar of the Pune police crime branch was returning home to the Shivajinagar police quarters after midnight patrol in the Warje area when his two-wheeler collided with the sports bike. Both Katkar and the rider of the sports bike fell to the ground, leading to an argument between the parties.

The confrontation quickly escalated, with the two men on the sports bike kicking and punching Katkar. One of the assailants even grabbed Katkar's police baton and used it to strike the constable, leaving him with a torn ear and injuries to his head and chest.

CCTV footage obtained by the police shows the two men assaulting Katkar, while two of their friends on another motorcycle stood nearby. The suspects then fled the scene towards Senapati Bapat Road or BMCC Road.

Katkar was admitted to a private hospital on Karve Road, and he later filed a complaint with the Deccan Gymkhana police station. Authorities have registered a case against the duo under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

In the evening, the Deccan Gymkhana police detained three youths, two electricians, and a polytechnic student from the Dattawadi area, on suspicion of involvement in the assault. The police have issued them a notice to cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
