Psychiatrist warned of killer potential before attacks
26 Feb
Summary
- Consultant psychiatrist predicted Valdo Calocane would kill.
- Calocane showed no remorse or insight in 2020 incidents.
- University unaware of critical mental health warnings.

A consultant psychiatrist issued a stark warning in 2020 that Valdo Calocane would "end up killing someone," according to evidence presented at a public inquiry. This warning came after Calocane exhibited violent behavior, leading to a woman fearing for her life and jumping from a first-floor window, sustaining serious injuries.
Medical notes from July 2020 indicated Calocane showed "no signs of remorse or insight" into how his actions affected others. He had stopped taking prescribed medication, believing it would slow his mind. Despite this, police did not intend to press charges at the time.
During his studies at the University of Nottingham between September 2017 and July 2022, Calocane was admitted to a mental health ward in May 2020 following a psychotic episode. Information regarding the severity of his condition, including the psychiatric warning, was not communicated to the university.
University officials stated they only became aware of these critical details after the June 2023 attacks. They emphasized that if such information had been shared, they would have encouraged Calocane to engage with services and take his medication, highlighting the lack of remorse as a significant concern.
