Luxury Car Thief Posed as Pro Ball Player

Savannah police are seeking a man suspected of orchestrating a sophisticated car theft by impersonating a professional basketball player. The incidents, which occurred at downtown Savannah hotels in August, involved the suspect leveraging his false identity to deceive hotel staff. He reportedly approached valet workers, claimed to be a pro athlete with several vehicles on site, and presented a ticket for a 2026 BMW X5, valued at approximately $90,000.

Using this fabricated persona, the suspect successfully retrieved the luxury SUV and drove away. Authorities later discovered the BMW was a dealership loaner being used by an actual hotel guest. The stolen vehicle was subsequently tracked to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and flagged as stolen. Investigators also determined that the Audi the suspect used to access his belongings had been previously reported stolen by another agency.
