An inmate serving a life sentence for murder has been given an additional four years to his term following a violent assault on a prison officer. The incident occurred, and the sentencing took place on March 12, 2021. The officer involved was treated for concussion and injuries to his face and neck at Peterborough City Hospital.
The convicted individual, identified as Dia, had previously been sentenced to life imprisonment in September 2019 for the murder of Lala Kamara, a 26-year-old trainee nurse. Ms. Kamara was strangled at her home in Denton, Greater Manchester, after discovering Dia was stealing from her and his brother to fund a drug habit. Dia pleaded guilty to the murder at Manchester Crown Court.
During the recent court proceedings at Huntingdon Law Courts in January 2021, Dia was found guilty of the attack on the prison officer. The court handed down the additional four-year sentence on March 12, 2021, acknowledging the ferocity and cowardice of the attack, as described by Detective Constable Emma Purser.
