Inmate Found Dead Days After Prison Transfer
10 Aug
Summary
- An inmate was found dead in his cell 10 days after transfer.
- Synthetic cannabinoids were detected in the deceased's system.
- Inquest revealed some required safety checks were not performed.

A recent inquest into the death of David Loch has revealed critical details surrounding his passing at HMP Lowdham Grange in Nottinghamshire. Mr. Loch, aged 35, was transferred to the prison on March 27, 2025, from another facility.
Tragically, he was found deceased in his cell on the morning of April 6, 2025. The investigation confirmed the presence of synthetic cannabinoids, commonly known as Spice, in his system.
During the inquest at Nottingham Coroner's Court, it was disclosed that certain safety checks concerning Mr. Loch were not conducted as per protocol. This occurred despite his prior history of self-harm and previous use of substances.
A forensic pathologist concluded that the use of synthetic cannabinoids directly resulted in Mr. Loch's death. The assistant coroner noted that the lapse in checks might have impacted the outcome, although Spice can act very rapidly with no known antidote.
