Two former prison officers, Jai Gascoyne and Elle Walton, have admitted to misconduct in public office. Their offenses stem from maintaining relationships with inmates Haq Nawaz and Dil Nawaz, brothers involved in a significant drug operation.
In September 2023, the Nawaz brothers received substantial prison sentences for their roles in a £3 million operation distributing crack cocaine and heroin. Haq Nawaz was sentenced to 13 years and 10 months, while Dil Nawaz received 12 years.
Elle Walton engaged in a relationship with Haq Nawaz, and Jai Gascoyne communicated by phone with Michael Haigh, another prisoner. The Nawaz brothers are accused of initiating these relationships and encouraging criminal behavior.
Both officers entered their guilty pleas at Manchester Crown Court and have been granted bail. Sentencing is scheduled for August 7th, with Judge Sarah Johnston emphasizing that all sentencing options remain open.
