A man has been sentenced to three years in prison for robbing a heavily pregnant woman. The incident occurred on Stretford Road in Manchester when Andrew Alveranga, aged 39, snatched a phone from the victim, who was 36 weeks pregnant. The force of the robbery caused the woman to fall to the ground.
Following the fall, the victim contacted police and provided a description of Alveranga. Crucially, she used her tablet to assist officers in tracking the stolen phone's location. This allowed police to pursue Alveranga, who was later arrested in Moss Side after discarding clothing.
Alveranga initially denied the offense, falsely claiming the phone was his. However, CCTV footage confirmed he had stolen the device. Authorities emphasized that the attack could have led to severe complications for both the pregnant woman and her unborn child.
