Pregnant Girlfriend Charged with Vehicular Homicide After Boyfriend's Tragic Death

On October 29, 2025, a tragic story unfolded in Florida, where a woman named Leigha Mumby has been charged with vehicular homicide after her boyfriend, Daniel Waterman, died from injuries sustained in a car crash earlier this year.

The incident occurred on February 9, 2025, when Waterman and Mumby were involved in a severe car crash on an interstate in Flagler County, Florida. Waterman sustained life-threatening injuries, including a spinal injury and trauma to his head and face, and was rushed to the hospital.

During his recovery, Waterman told investigators that Mumby had driven the vehicle into a tree during an argument. He claimed that the couple was arguing after he learned Mumby was pregnant and received a text message from a woman in New York. As the fight intensified, Waterman said Mumby began driving recklessly, and at one point, he tried to escape the vehicle. Mumby then allegedly sped up and drove the car into a tree, saying, "I don't care what happens, you'll get what you deserve."

Mumby, on the other hand, told investigators a few days after the incident that she did not know what had happened leading up to the crash and remembers waking up "in agonizing pain." Both Mumby and the unborn child survived the crash.

Tragically, Waterman succumbed to his injuries on October 8, 2025, prompting the authorities to charge Mumby with vehicular homicide on October 24, 2025. Waterman's family is now fighting for custody of the child, pending a paternity test, as they believe the child should not be raised by a mother who could have potentially caused the death of her own boyfriend.
