Dog Ashes Sent in Tonic Box: Mum Outraged
7 Feb
Summary
- Mum received her dog's ashes in a used tonic water box.
- Cheshire Police seized and destroyed the XL Bully dog.
- Daughter discovered ashes when the box was opened.

A Cheshire mother expressed outrage over the disrespectful manner in which her XL Bully dog's ashes were returned by police. Cali was seized by Cheshire Police on October 25 last year following neighbour complaints. Despite the owner's efforts, the dog, which was not exempt under the XL Bully ban, was destroyed. The owner was informed via text on January 28 that the dog had been "destroyed."
The ashes were subsequently sent back in a cardboard box intended for Fever Tree elderflower tonic water. The discovery was made by the owner's 13-year-old daughter, who unintentionally opened the package. The ashes spilled out, causing severe emotional distress to both mother and daughter.
The mother stated that Cali had never displayed aggression and was a timid, good-tempered dog. She plans to file a formal complaint and seek an apology from the police, emphasizing that no other pet owner should experience such a distressing situation.
