On November 2, 2025, a 25-year-old woman from Pollachi, who was staying at a hostel in Coimbatore and working at a private company, was allegedly targeted by two men. According to the police complaint, the woman had befriended one of the accused, Tharun, on the Bumble dating app. Around 7 PM on November 2, Tharun picked the woman up from her hostel in his SUV and took her to an isolated place near the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border, where his relative, T. Dhanush, joined them.
The duo then reportedly intimidated the woman into transferring Rs 90,000 to them via UPI and extorted a one sovereign gold chain, a one sovereign gold ring, and a one sovereign bracelet from her before abandoning her at a star hotel on Avinashi Road. The woman immediately filed a complaint with the Race Course police station on November 3.
Following the complaint, a special police team arrested Tharun and Dhanush, who is the son of a deputy superintendent of police working elsewhere in Tamil Nadu. The police also seized the SUV used in the incident. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
