- 81-year-old pedestrian killed in collision with police motorcycle
- Officer was escorting Duchess of Edinburgh through London

On May 10, 2023, a tragic incident occurred in London when a police motorcyclist struck and killed an elderly pedestrian while escorting the Duchess of Edinburgh. The 68-year-old officer, Christopher Harrison, was part of a convoy traveling through the city when he hit 81-year-old Helen Holland at a pedestrian crossing.
Harrison was traveling at a speed between 44-58 mph in a 30 mph zone when the collision happened. Holland suffered severe injuries, including a skull fracture, and died two weeks later. However, a jury has now acquitted the officer of causing death by careless driving after deliberating for over two hours.
The verdict has sparked outrage, with one person in the public gallery shouting, "You ruined our family with no consequences." The officer, who had 21 years of experience in the specialist escort group, described the incident as a "tragic accident" that was beyond his control. He claimed the pedestrian "just appeared" in front of him, and he did not see her on the island before the collision.
