In Ahmedabad, a police constable, Arjunsingh Purohit, faces charges of abetment of suicide following the death of his wife, Geeta Purohit, on April 15. Geeta, aged 35, died by suicide at her residence, leaving behind a 10-year-old daughter and a 7-year-old son.
Her brother filed a complaint alleging years of physical and mental harassment by Arjunsingh, who has been a police officer since 2015. The complainant stated Arjunsingh called him on the morning of April 15, claiming Geeta was distressed over their son's health and had taken sleeping pills. He later learned she had died by suicide.
Family members reported Geeta had previously returned to her parental home due to disputes, including an alleged assault in August 2023. She returned after a community-mediated settlement. A prior domestic dispute in June 2024 also led to police involvement. A handwritten note found by police reportedly indicates Geeta's distress.
