Angry Mob Attacks Police Trying to Reopen Quarry in Jharkhand

On November 2nd, 2025, a violent clash erupted in Rewa Ratu village of Jharkhand's Lesliganj area as the police attempted to reopen a stone quarry in compliance with a recent order from the Jharkhand High Court. Three police personnel, including the officer-in-charge Uttam Kumar Rai, were injured when an irate mob pelted stones at the police contingent.
The police had reached the village accompanied by a magistrate-level officer to execute the court's order to reopen the quarry. However, the local residents strongly opposed the move and gathered at the site, with elderly women and children at the front, raising slogans. Young men positioned behind them then began pelting stones at the police, injuring Rai and two constables, Avadesh Paswan and Mahendra Dubey.
The injured officers were rushed to the Lesliganj community health center, where two of them received stitches to their heads and were given antibiotics and painkillers. The Lesliganj subdivisional police officer, Manoj Kumar Jha, stated that the locals were angered by the decision to reopen the quarry and resorted to the violent attack. At least 12 people were rounded up by the police in the aftermath of the incident.
