Summary
- More than 50 cases opened, 45 arrests made in nine-month operation.
- Over 1.6 million doses of fentanyl were seized from streets.
- Six Glock switches removed, capable of turning guns automatic.

A significant law enforcement initiative, the Eastern Allegheny Initiative, has successfully removed felons, guns, and drugs from Pittsburgh's eastern suburbs. This operation, developed over nine months, led to 45 arrests and the seizure of 54 firearms. Among the confiscated items were six Glock switches, devices that convert semi-automatic weapons into fully automatic ones, highlighting their potential for mass destruction.
Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday reported that over 1.6 million doses of fentanyl were taken off the streets of eastern Allegheny County. This quantity is substantial enough to supply the combined populations of Allegheny and Westmoreland counties. Local police chiefs noted that removing alleged gun and drug traffickers directly improves the sense of safety for residents.
The FBI emphasized that the true measure of success extends beyond arrest statistics. It encompasses the prevention of harm, potential overdose deaths, and the creation of safer neighborhoods. The operation focused on areas including Penn Hills, Monroeville, and Turtle Creek, aiming to prevent future violence and loss.
