Seven Charged in Massive Unlicensed Weed Farm

Pierce County prosecutors have charged seven individuals in connection with an alleged illegal marijuana cultivation operation. Investigators discovered over 1,000 marijuana plants at various growth stages, alongside dozens of pounds of cannabis product, following a Sheriff's Office investigation. Search warrants executed in Frederickson, Spanaway, and near Puyallup uncovered the extensive grow.

The seven defendants are facing charges including conspiracy to manufacture a controlled substance and unlawful possession with intent to deliver. Evidence suggests the operation involved multiple properties, with one location reportedly used for processing harvested marijuana and another containing growing equipment. Investigators also found firearms registered to one of the primary suspects.

While cannabis is legal in Washington, unlicensed grows are strictly prohibited. The investigation, which began in fall 2023, focused on Yifeng Chen, who allegedly purchased supplies consistent with indoor grow setups. Authorities emphasized the dangers associated with unlicensed marijuana cultivation.
