Authorities are once again seeking the public's help in locating a suspect wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a casino security guard. Michael Ferdinand, 34, was killed while working at a Pickering casino in the early morning hours of October 9, 2023. A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for Tyjae Nosworthy-Smith, who was 17 at the time of the incident and is now charged with second-degree murder.
Durham Regional Police Service Det.-Sgt. Erik Mamers announced a $25,000 reward for information leading to Nosworthy-Smith's arrest, describing him as armed and dangerous. Despite efforts to track the suspect through social media, his movements remain difficult to pinpoint. Nosworthy-Smith is described as a Black male, 5'8", 110 lbs, with a tattoo on his left elbow, and is believed to have ties to the Driftwood community, the Jane and Finch area, and Brampton.
Ferdinand's grieving wife, Mara, shared heartfelt memories of her husband, highlighting his ability to make others feel at ease and seen. She described the profound loss and the daunting challenge of living without him. Police emphasize their commitment to bringing the perpetrator to justice to honor Michael Ferdinand's memory and bring closure to his devastated family.
