Newlywed Arrested For DUI Despite Passing Tests
27 Apr
Summary
- Woman arrested for DUI after wedding, despite zero BAC.
- Lawsuit alleges Phoenix PD has DUI arrest quotas.
- Charges dismissed after blood tests showed no impairment.

Brianna Longoria, an aspiring nurse from California, filed a lawsuit against the City of Phoenix and its police department following a DUI arrest made in December 2024. The incident occurred the day after her wedding, after she was pulled over by Officer Mary Metheny for alleged traffic violations. Despite passing a breathalyzer test with "triple zeros" and an eye test, Metheny arrested Longoria, suspecting marijuana impairment. The lawsuit contends the Phoenix Police Department imposes DUI quotas, leading to wrongful arrests.
Bodycam footage revealed conversations between officers, including Officer Anette Hannah, about the pressure to meet arrest numbers. Longoria's attorney, John H. Sud, stated it appears quotas were in place and Longoria was a victim. Further testing at the precinct showed "super, super low" results, and subsequent blood tests in January 2025 were negative for any substances. The traffic violation, running a red light, was later found inaccurate and noted for removal from the report. The charges against Longoria were dismissed in April 2025, and her license was reinstated in July 2025. The lawsuit states the arrest has significantly impacted her life, delaying cancer treatment due to lack of transportation and derailing her nursing career aspirations, as drug DUIs are disqualifying. She is seeking damages and expungement of the arrest from her record. The Phoenix Police Department denies having DUI quotas.
