Petaluma police have made two arrests in connection with illegal fireworks just days before the July 4th holiday. The firework landed on the roof, causing approximately $1,000 in damage, and may have been part of an ongoing neighbor dispute. The suspect, Ben Shein, 43, later surrendered to police and was booked on felony charges including threats, arson, and vandalism.
The following day, officers patrolling the Lynch Creek Trail encountered Dan Flynn, 55, of Santa Rosa. During a search, officers discovered brass knuckles, an illegal M-150 firecracker, and oxycodone. Flynn was arrested on charges including possession of illegal weapons, controlled substances, and destructive devices, along with violating pre-trial release conditions.
As the July 4th holiday approaches, police departments across the Bay Area typically see an increase in fireworks-related arrests due to widespread bans. Petaluma's official fireworks show is scheduled for July 4th at the Petaluma Fairgrounds. Authorities are reminding residents to report any dangerous or illegal firework activity by calling 911.
