On February 16, 2026, a shocking mass shooting unfolded at Lynch Arena in Pawtucket during a high school hockey game. The event, which was Senior Night, was violently disrupted when the father of a player opened fire on his own family in the stands.
Three bystanders, Michael Black, Robert Rattenni, and Ryan Cordeiro, bravely tackled and disarmed the assailant. The shooter subsequently died by suicide. Police body-worn video captured the immediate aftermath, showing officers arriving to find multiple victims.
First responders, including off-duty firefighters and a nurse, immediately provided aid. Officer Ianelli was seen assisting in medical efforts, comforting a gravely wounded Aidan Dorgan. Despite best efforts, Aidan Dorgan later died from his injuries, having reportedly tried to protect his mother. His mother, Rhonda Dorgan, was killed in the attack. His grandparents, Gerald and Linda Dorgan, and a family friend, Thomas Geruso, were also victims. As of February 28, 2026, Gerald Dorgan had died from his injuries, Linda Dorgan and Geruso had been hospitalized, with one remaining in care.
