10 Apr
Summary
- Patna High Court ordered a reinvestigation into a suspicious death.
- The victim was a school warden found dead on school premises.
- The court cited serious lapses in the initial police investigation.

The Patna High Court has mandated a new investigation into the death of Rinku Kumari, a warden at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Avasiya Vidyalaya in Begusarai. Her body was found on school grounds on April 4, 2021, with a noose around her neck. The court's decision followed a review of the initial police investigation, which was found to contain significant flaws.
Justice Sandeep Kumar, allowing a criminal writ application, highlighted that the local police had neglected critical evidence, including the post-mortem report and call detail records. A financial dispute involving Rs 15 lakh, related to a land deal, was also apparently overlooked. The court emphasized that a fair investigation is a fundamental constitutional right.
The investigation team will be constituted by IG Vikas Vaibhav. This fresh probe aims to address the perceived inadequacies of the prior inquiry and ascertain the true circumstances of Rinku Kumari's death, ensuring justice is served. The court stressed that the right to a fair trial cannot be diminished by the passage of time.
