- Accused jailed even for possessing small quantities of liquor.
In an unprecedented legal development, the Patna high court set a new record on Monday by granting bail to 463 individuals in cases concerning prohibition laws. This surpasses the court's previous benchmark of over 300 bails issued in a single day.
A single bench, presided over by Justice Rudra Prakash Mishra, heard 508 liquor-related cases. The judge observed that the widespread poor implementation of prohibition laws by authorities has significantly contributed to the mounting number of cases and the backlog of bail matters.
Justice Mishra voiced concern over the incarceration of individuals for possessing minimal quantities of liquor. The court acknowledged the efficiency of public prosecutors, who played a key role in the rapid resolution of these cases at a "hurricane pace."
