A three-month-old boy, Adam Essid, tragically died in hospital after allegedly sustaining severe head injuries at his Finchley, north London home. His parents, Dounia Chetaouat, 32, and Abdelkader Essid, 44, have been charged with his murder. They also face charges of causing or allowing the death of a child. Paramedics and police were called to their home on January 30, where the infant received emergency treatment before being rushed to Great Ormond Street Hospital.
The court heard that Adam suffered bleeding on the brain and fractures to his skull. He passed away on February 17. Chetaouat appeared via video-link for a preliminary hearing at the Old Bailey on Wednesday, while Essid was not present. Judge Sarah Munro KC has scheduled a plea hearing for May 13 and a provisional trial to commence on February 15 of next year. Both parents have been remanded into custody.
