An Ohio State University assistant professor, Luke Perez, was placed on administrative leave on February 10th following an incident on February 9th where he allegedly assaulted a documentarian. The altercation occurred outside a lecture hall as the journalist, Michael Neuman, and another independent reporter, DJ Byrnes, were attempting to interview former university president E Gordon Gee.
Video footage captured Perez confronting Neuman, shouting at him, knocking his phone away, and then tackling him to the ground. Neuman's attorney stated his client was merely asking Gee about student loan debt and his defense of donor Les Wexner, who has alleged ties to Jeffrey Epstein.
The documentarian's legal team is demanding Perez be prosecuted and terminated, emphasizing that reporting on public universities should be permitted. Ohio State University confirmed awareness of the incident and stated an investigation is underway.
