In Orlando, Florida, Richard Jarvis was arrested on Monday, February 23, following a violent incident at Pearl's Chinese restaurant. Jarvis, 43, gained entry to the establishment and proceeded to vandalize the kitchen using a shovel.
During the disturbance, Jarvis reportedly stated that Chinese restaurants would release a new COVID strain on July 6, identifying himself as a prophet attempting to protect people. He further threatened the restaurant owner with the shovel after the owner attempted to flee.
Jarvis was subsequently charged with aggravated battery, criminal mischief, and burglary with a weapon. Nearby businesses have since reported increasing their security measures in response to the attack.
