Opium Smuggler Gets 10 Years in Jail

In a nearly seven-year-old opium smuggling case, Dashrath alias Kamal, from Madhya Pradesh, has been sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and a Rs 1 lakh fine by an additional sessions judge in Fatehabad. The court found him guilty of possessing a commercial quantity of contraband, with police having arrested him in Chimmo village with 3.5 kg of opium.
Dashrath had confessed that he was tasked by Suraj Singh, also from Madhya Pradesh, to deliver the opium for a commission. Suraj Singh was arrested by police but later absconded after securing bail. Consequently, the court declared him a proclaimed offender on March 25, 2025. The final verdict against Dashrath was delivered after a thorough examination of evidence and arguments.
