14 Nov
Summary
- Loan shark and enforcer beat vulnerable drug user, leading to his death
- Victims suffered broken ribs and ruptured spleen before dying 8 weeks later
- Perpetrators showed no remorse for "truly vile" attack

In a tragic incident, a loan shark and her enforcer have been convicted of manslaughter for a brutal attack that led to the death of a vulnerable drug user. The incident occurred on September 10, 2023, when 45-year-old Martin Shaw was bundled into a car by Jemma Marshall and Jason Wadsworth in Oldham, UK.
The pair repeatedly hit the victim, causing him to suffer broken ribs and a ruptured spleen. After the beating, they drove Shaw back to his home, where Wadsworth was overheard shouting at him to "give her, her money." Shaw was later taken to the hospital, where he died on November 4, 2023, nearly eight weeks after the assault.
Despite being cleared of murder, Marshall and Wadsworth were found guilty of manslaughter by a jury at Manchester Crown Court. Detective Chief Inspector Neil Higginson of Greater Manchester Police described the attack as "vicious" and "truly vile," noting that the perpetrators had shown no remorse for their actions.
The court heard that Marshall had exploited vulnerable drug users, claiming they owed her money, with the alleged debts rising over time. Wadsworth would then act as an enforcer, using violence and intimidation to reinforce her demands.
The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by those caught in the grip of loan sharks and their enforcers. Authorities have urged anyone feeling exploited or threatened to report it, as no one should lose their life over a financial debt.
