Senior Stabbed During School Event Dispute

An incident at Mesa Vista High School's cafeteria in Ojo Caliente resulted in the arrest of a 70-year-old man, Aron Martinez Jr., on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. The alleged stabbing occurred Sunday during a community event held at the school, which officials stated was not school-related. Witnesses reported that Martinez, who was in a wheelchair, stabbed a 39-year-old man in the abdomen following an argument.

The victim survived the attack after undergoing surgery and receiving a blood transfusion. According to court documents, the dispute may have been related to a group of children playing outside the school. A witness attempted to deescalate the argument before seeing Martinez make a striking motion towards the victim.

The Mesa Vista Consolidated School District released a statement clarifying that while they allow community members to use school facilities for various events, users are liable for any incidents. The district is cooperating with law enforcement's ongoing investigation into the matter. Martinez had reportedly left the scene before deputies arrived.
