An elderly Ohio man, 83-year-old William Brock, has received a sentence of 21 years to life for the fatal shooting of an Uber driver. The incident occurred in March 2026 when Brock, a victim of a scam himself, mistakenly identified Lo-Letha Toland-Hall, 61, as a fraudster upon her arrival at his home. Toland-Hall was dispatched to Brock's residence for a purported package pickup, unaware that Brock was being targeted by scammers demanding $12,000.
Dashcam footage captured Brock pointing a pistol at Toland-Hall. A struggle ensued, resulting in Toland-Hall being shot multiple times. Brock claimed self-defense, stating Toland-Hall attacked him after the initial shot. However, prosecutors argued that a reasonable person would not have resorted to deadly force against a defenseless woman. Brock was convicted of felony murder, felonious assault, and kidnapping. The individuals behind the scam that led to this tragedy have not yet been caught.
