A significant livestock theft has prompted an investigation by the Mercer County Sheriff's Office. Officials reported that 64 Holstein calves were stolen from a family farm located near the intersection of State Route 219 and Coldwater Creek Road. The theft is believed to have taken place sometime between 10 p.m. on May 2 and 6 a.m. on May 3. The missing calves are described as being around 13 weeks old, recently weaned, and each weighing approximately 250 pounds. These animals are considered very valuable, and some have unique markings. Investigators suspect that the individual(s) responsible are knowledgeable about cattle and likely utilized standard cattle handling equipment to remove the animals. The sheriff's office is actively seeking any potential leads, including camera footage from the vicinity of the farm. They are also asking the public to be vigilant for any attempts to resell the stolen calves. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Mercer County Sheriff's Office and speak with Sgt. Rachel Heinl, the lead investigator.
