A con artist recently defrauded a sub-divisional officer (SDO) from Majalgaon, Beed, of Rs 30,000. The scammer concocted a story about the Mumbai collector's son being involved in a serious accident and requiring immediate funds for hospitalization. The fraudster initially contacted the personal assistant of a former Beed minister, who then alerted the SDO about the alleged emergency within his jurisdiction.
Following this, the fraudster directly contacted the SDO, who, under pressure and with little time to verify, instructed his brother to arrange the money. The sum of Rs 30,000 was promptly transferred. However, the SDO's suspicions were aroused a few hours later.
He contacted the Beed district collector to confirm the incident and discovered that no such accident had taken place. By the time the deception was uncovered, the perpetrator had already disappeared. Beed Rural police have registered a case regarding the incident, and investigations are ongoing.
