Authorities in Jajpur have successfully dismantled a gang suspected of orchestrating at least four temple thefts that occurred this month. Four members of the group have been arrested, and a significant quantity of stolen items, including brass bells, utensils, and religious apparels, have been recovered. These thefts targeted two Hanuman temples and two Shiva temples under the Dharmasala police station limits.
During interrogation, the arrested individuals admitted to establishing a criminal syndicate specifically for stealing temple valuables with the intent to sell them. The group reportedly broke locks to gain access to the temple premises. Police are actively pursuing leads to apprehend other members of the gang who may still be at large.
The accused have been booked under sections 331(1) and 305(d) of the BNS. They were presented in court on Sunday, where their bail pleas were denied, and they were subsequently remanded to judicial custody. Raids are ongoing to locate any remaining accomplices.
