NYPD Detective First Grade Michael Greaney made an extraordinary save on his commute to work earlier this week. While driving on the Bronx River Parkway, he noticed a speeding BMW and learned from the frantic father that his 8-month-old baby was choking.
Greaney immediately intervened, performing back blows on the infant until the obstruction was cleared. A nurse who happened to be nearby assessed the baby, confirming she was healthy. The detective, a father himself, expressed relief at averting a tragedy.
The dramatic rescue was captured on video, which has since gone viral. Greaney, who joined the force in 2008, later advised the father to learn infant choking rescue techniques. His swift actions have been lauded as heroic by law enforcement officials.
