A fatal stabbing occurred on a New York City J train on Wednesday, October 2nd, 2026. Jyrell Thomas, 25, reportedly attacked Mesias Lojano with a kitchen knife after pacing agitatedly. While initial reports suggested the attack was unprovoked, later information indicated an argument preceded the stabbing.
Lojano sustained multiple stab wounds to his neck and chest. He was discovered unresponsive at the subway station and later pronounced dead at a hospital. The assailant, Thomas, who police identified as emotionally disturbed, fled the scene. Bystanders filmed the aftermath, chasing the suspect through the station and onto the street.
The pursuit continued into a parking lot, where the suspect evaded capture by climbing a fence and reaching a roof. Thomas was apprehended the following day, October 3rd, and taken for a psychiatric evaluation at Jamaica Hospital.
