ICE Agent Fires Into Car With Child Inside
15 Oct
Summary
- Agent allegedly shot man without identifying himself first.
- DHS claims officers fired after man drove into government vehicles.
- Man's son was in the backseat during the shooting incident.
A man critically injured by an immigration officer in New York City states the agent failed to identify himself before firing into his vehicle, which contained his young son. This account directly contradicts the Department of Homeland Security's version.
DHS officials assert that officers discharged their weapons only after the man allegedly rammed two government vehicles and accelerated towards personnel.
Lawyers for the injured man, Oscar Belgal, have filed a court petition seeking his release. They contend that an unidentified, masked assailant approached Belgal's car, smashed a window, and fired, striking him in the neck.
NYPD security footage shows an officer approaching the car with a gun and breaking the window, after which Belgal drives away. The pursuit ended with Belgal's car damaged and bullet holes visible. Belgal claims he did not know they were ICE officers until he woke in the hospital.
Belgal remains detained and has not yet received surgery for the bullet lodged in his neck, reportedly suffering from facial numbness and hearing impairment. DHS stated the incident is under investigation.
