4 Feb
Summary
- Nursery worker jailed for attacking 21 defenceless babies.
- Attacks included kicking, punching, and pinching young children.
- Deportation to Poland is expected after serving prison time.

Roksana Lecka, a 22-year-old Polish national, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for a series of cruel attacks on 21 infants at Riverside Nursery in Twickenham. Her violent actions included punching, kicking, pinching, and scratching toddlers, some as young as ten months old. Lecka confessed to seven counts of child cruelty, with a jury finding her guilty of 14 additional counts after she denied them.
During her trial, Lecka attempted to attribute her behavior to sleep deprivation from cannabis use. CCTV footage revealed her vaping in a baby sleeping room and showed specific instances of abuse, such as kicking a boy in the face and punching a girl. Police interviews indicated a lack of remorse and emotion from the defendant.
Parents expressed devastation and guilt, with some fearing Lecka could have caused fatal harm. The judge characterized her conduct as 'sadistic' and ordered her to be barred from working with children or vulnerable individuals. Lecka, who moved to the UK when younger, is slated for deportation to Poland.
