Janet Swallow, a respected nurse with a career spanning over 40 years, was tragically killed last Thursday at her home in what authorities are calling a random attack. She was 68 years old.
Swallow, who earned her nursing degree from Boston College, spent three decades caring for patients in critical and intensive care units at Lahey Hospital in Burlington. Colleagues remember her for her humor and skill, while her family highlighted her lifelong passion for reading and book clubs.
The suspect, 18-year-old Anthony DeMayo, arrested in Lynn, has pleaded not guilty to a murder charge. He is currently undergoing a mental health evaluation at Bridgewater State Hospital.
A GoFundMe fundraiser has been set up for the Swallow family, raising over $55,000 towards its $65,000 goal. The family has requested donations in her memory be made to the MSPCA's Northeast Animal Shelter.
