A fraudulent individual has been exposed for endangering patient lives by assuming the identity of a registered nurse. Ashton Guramatunhu, 46, used a genuine nurse's credentials to secure employment and illicitly gain approximately £173,000.
Between January 2015 and April 2019, Guramatunhu worked in six different nursing homes across the north east of England under false pretenses. His past convictions made him unsuitable for such a role, prompting his elaborate scheme to steal an actual nurse's identity in late 2014.
The conman's fraudulent activities came to light at Liverpool Crown Court. The real nurse was contacted by the Nursing and Midwifery Council regarding an incident involving Guramatunhu, leading to his apprehension and the exposure of his extensive deception.
