Summary
- Nurse held captive in Dubai after recruitment agency's false promises.
- Passport confiscated, visa expired; agency agents demand repayment.
- FIR registered against three individuals for cheating and confinement.
A nurse from Chhota Ghaghra, Ranchi, was allegedly subjected to forced labor and confinement in Dubai after a private recruitment agency failed to provide the promised nursing position. Monica Kachhap, who arrived in Dubai on May 5, 2026, reported that her passport was confiscated and her visa has expired. She is currently near Abu Baker Al Siddique Metro Station.
The FIR was lodged at the airport police station on May 7, 2026, based on her father's complaint against Priyanka Arya, her husband Ritesh, and Md Meraj Ansari. Monica was allegedly pressured to sign documents in Arabic, which she was later told indicated a debt of 12,600 dirhams, payable before her return to India.
The family claims Monica transferred Rs 15,000 to Priyanka on April 22, 2026, for the job and paid additional amounts for an air ticket. Monica, a BSc in nursing with prior experience, had contacted Priyanka via social media before her departure.
Police have registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including forced labor, cheating, wrongful confinement, and criminal breach of trust. Efforts are underway with the Indian Embassy to secure Monica's repatriation.
