An ICU nurse named Alex Pretti was involved in a tense, filmed encounter with federal agents just days before he was fatally shot. The video, reportedly recorded on January 13, shows Pretti damaging a federal agent's SUV. He appears to spit on the vehicle before kicking and shattering its rear tail light.
Agents exited their SUV to apprehend Pretti, who was armed. Following the altercation, they released him despite the property damage. Pretti's family acknowledged they were aware of this earlier incident and that he sustained injuries.
Eleven days after this initial clash, Pretti was again confronted by federal officers on January 24. During this second encounter, a Border Patrol agent and a Customs and Border Protection officer fired shots, resulting in Pretti's death at the scene.
