Summary
- Nurse crashed into Shap Medical Practice while driving drunk.
- Two individuals sustained minor injuries in the incident.
- The nurse received a three-year driving ban and a £500 fine.

A 39-year-old nurse, Carla Earnshaw, from Great Strickland near Penrith, has been banned from driving for three years and fined £500. She crashed her vehicle into the wall of Shap Medical Practice after consuming excessive wine the previous night.
The collision caused minor injuries to two individuals and significant damage to the dispensary wall. The practice remained closed for several days while a structural engineer assessed the building.
Evidential tests revealed Earnshaw had 62 micrograms of alcohol per 100 milliliters of breath, exceeding the legal limit of 35mcg. This incident occurred despite a previous drink-driving conviction in January 2024, for which she received a two-year ban that was later reduced upon completing a rehabilitation course.
Her defense lawyer stated she consumed alcohol after a demanding work schedule and was driving an unfamiliar car. Earnshaw expressed remorse for her actions. The district judge emphasized the seriousness of her state of intoxication.
