Registered Sex Offender Charged in North Carolina Clerk's Murder

Robin Doyle, a 58-year-old gas station clerk beloved by her community, was found deceased after she went missing from her Hickory, North Carolina home. She was last seen on the evening of July 27, 2026, and was reported missing the following day by a family member. Authorities discovered her remains in northeastern Catawba County on Friday, July 31, 2026.

Leroy Allen Loper has been arrested and charged with murder, first-degree kidnapping, destroying remains, and concealing death in connection with Doyle's homicide. Loper is a registered sex offender with previous felony convictions. Investigators have not yet disclosed the cause of death or a motive for the alleged crime. Loper is being held without bond as the investigation continues.
