31 Aug
Summary
- £2.2m compensation paid to officers injured on duty last year.
- One in nine officers signed off for mental health reasons.
- Assaults on officers rose significantly in recent years.

Norfolk's police force disbursed £2.2 million in payouts to officers who sustained injuries while on duty over the past year. A total of 139 officers received compensation for physical or psychological harm experienced during their service.
The figures reveal a concerning trend, with one in nine officers being signed off for mental health reasons. This represents more than double the figure reported in 2016. Concurrently, assaults against officers in the county have escalated, with cases increasing from 600 in 2019/20 to 840.
Six payouts were specifically allocated for 'very severe injuries,' which have the potential to permanently prevent officers from returning to their duties. The Norfolk Constabulary stated that safety measures are regularly reviewed, and efforts are underway to enhance officer training and equipment.
